While just about every reservation holder is waiting for news on the exact date of first deliveries for the 2021 Bronco, the Blue Oval’s machine steams down its course. On this occasion, it’s time for some high-speed off-road motorsport performance recognition, as Ford attempts to conquer the 2021 King of the Hammers with a trio of all-new Bronco 4400 series race trucks.
Remember when the U.S. automaker officially presented the 2021 Bronco family – with the Bronco Sport, 2-Door, and 4-Door models – how they also mentioned the “Bronco” moniker is now a sub-brand on its own, more precisely the “outdoor brand of Built Wild 4x4 SUVs from Ford?!”
Well, we have seen this outfit expand its operations thoroughly in the meantime, from taking care of Mother Nature (through its Bronco Wild Fund outlet) to an encompassing presence across America with the Bronco Off-Roadeos “off-roading and outdoor adventure playgrounds.”
Now they’re also expanding the presence with direct participation in the 2021 King of the Hammers ULTRA4 4400 unlimited class – which isn’t exactly a surprise, considering the Bronco was already the official truck and SUV of the series.
Billed as “one of the most extreme off-road competition series in the world, combining high-speed desert racing with low-speed rock crawling,” the ULTRA4 class will see the trio of purpose-built Bronco race trucks piloted by a veritable ensemble of stars.
The roster includes Vaughn Gittin Jr. as well as two- and three-time King of the Hammers victors Loren Healy and Jason Scherer, respectively. The Bronco 4400 race trucks have a custom-built tubular chassis with oversized off-road tires, a long-travel suspension setup, as well as high-performance engines, and 4x4 driveline systems.
Ford hasn’t revealed specific details, but that’s probably beside the point – the general audience might be a tad more interested in finding out that the Bronco Sport and big Broncos will be on site for media drives and some long overdue ride-along fun.
Even better, Ford promises a “never-before-seen Bronco model debut” on Wednesday at King of the Hammers, and our bet would be the company will either reveal the 2022 Heritage Edition or the eagerly anticipated high-performance Warthog.
