We'll just be blunt about this: we love the new Ford Transit! It's got the gear shifter from a Focus, it's got cup holders, it's got an infotainment system and from the outside it looks very sexy.
It's not just us though. Britain has been in love with the Transit ever since it was introduced there. Yesterday, Ford of Britain announced a significant milestone for the company, as the company has reached 10,000 sales in UK just one year after launch. That makes it more popular than even some car models.
The UK is currently Ford's largest commercial vehicle market in Europe. Last year, they sold 65,000 models there. The second largest, Germany, only provided ford with 35,000 customers. The Transit Custom was named the International Van of the Year 2013. It's designed in Essex at the Ford Dunton Technical Centre and is the first vehicle in its segment to ever get a 5-star rating from Euro NCAP.
Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain sales director, said: “I couldn’t be happier that we’ve reached our target to sell 10,000 Transit Customs a whole month earlier than planned. Ford is in a strong position, offering customers more choice by selling previous generation Transit alongside new Transit Custom, helping to maintain our firm grip on the UK’s medium van segment.
“As Ford continues its product onslaught, it is also investing to meet the precise needs of its business customers by introducing 100 specialist Transit Centres across the UK.”
