Ford of Australia Sacks 212 Workers at Local Plant

One of Ford’s Australian factories, in the state of Victoria was forced to give up on the services of 212 of its workers, today, following six months of uncertainty and negotiations. Prior to this drastic move, Ford had announced that they would be firing 440 workers, at two of their plants, yet only 118 of them accepted Ford’s compensational packages and left at their own accord.

The move comes less than a year after the Australian government had given Ford $34-million AUD to develop the next generation Falcon, and this was actually thought to increase the number of available jobs by 300. However, according to the Australian Prime Minister’s spokeswoman, Sophie Mirabella: "Ford workers have been ripped off by Gillard's (the Prime Minister) lie. Instead of the promised 300 new jobs, we have seen 330 jobs cut."

The next Falcon is still on its way, though, and they recently teased it at the 2012 Sydney Motor Show. It is expected to debut some time at the end of 2013, or early 2014.
