Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. Tesla Model Y: EV Rivals Are All About the Tech

The Fast Lane Car put together a comparison review between two of the most exciting EVs right now. The new Mustang Mach-E is going up against their red Tesla Model Y. That's right, it's the one with the problematic rear door.

The father&son duo of Tommy and Roman spends a lot of time going over the details and features of these two, comparing them as they go. You get the feeling that this is more of a tech review than anything else - an Apple vs. Android thing if you will. And for some reason, the first feature they check out is the app.

Gone are the days when you need a key to open the car. Tesla even lets you pop the front trunk, and while Ford's app doesn't do that, you will be able to when the updates roll in. Door handles have also been "reinvented." While the Model Y has pop-out handles, the Mach-E just has buttons to open the doors. Hopefully, those still work in the winter or once the warranty expires.

While they're a little similar on the outside, these rivals are worlds apart inside. Model Y, as you probably know, has one of the most minimalist dashboards ever made. Everything is concentrated on the large tablet. Meanwhile, Ford had a larger parts bin to rummage through to give us a somewhat familiar cabin that still feels minimalist. Only time will tell if Ford's OTA software updates will be as good as Tesla's... probably not, though.

Sadly, these two crossovers are not direct rivals in terms of specs. The Mach-E Premium AWD has 211 miles (339 km) of range. The Model Y has 70 miles (112 km) of extra reach. There is, however, a Ford that will go 300 miles (482 km), basically matching Tesla in that regard.
