The car of the future - not many people noticed this, but it usually has something to do with the police. That's why we're showing you this Ford Mustang Mach-E in the Interceptor setup.
A lot of near-future sci-fi movies are about crime, which is inevitable when you squeeze sentient robots, super-powered criminals or alien species into a fictional universe. That's why many of the most iconic movie concepts have at least some connection with the police.

My personal favorite is the Judge Car from the original Dredd movie, the one with Sylvester Stallone. The film was kind of cringy, but those vehicles look about as interesting as the concepts for the Tesla truck today. Stallone had another cop car in Demolition Man, which looked like the VW XL1 and drove itself.

The Audi RSQ from iRobot looked like the R8 before there was an R8, plus it was also fully autonomous. Blade Runner, The Fifth Element... the list can go on for a while. But the future feels like it's here, with most of the most iconic automakers in the world switching to electric powertrains.

Among them is Ford, which made some of the most iconic police cars ever. And no, we're not talking about Barricade, the Mustang-disguised Deception from the Transformers saga, although that would be a brilliant setup for this particular story.

The Mach-E wears the Mustang badge and borrows its stying, but is an all-electric car with four doors and a crossover-like body. For many, that formula is sacrilegious, but it also results in something better suited to the role of an Interceptor than the average pony car.

Car artist Nikita Aksyonov rendered just such a machine for us, adding wheels as tough as old boots, a bull bar, and accessory lights. The Police would probably want the version with the 95 kWh battery and RWD, since it would result in the longest range, over 300 miles. However, the twin-motor version's ability to reach 60mph in about seconds (for the future Mach-E GT) seems useful too.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
