Ford Mustang GT Drag Races Challenger R/T Scat Pack, The Struggle Is Desperate

This is an awesome time to be an automotive aficionado, with the new-age Detroit beasts being even fiercer than the late 60s originals. In fact, the muscle cars built nowadays are so good at the sprinting game that one doesn't even have to involve the latest models or the range-toppers to put on a show. And we've brought along an example of this, which includes a Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack and a Ford Mustang GT.

Note that we're looking at mid-range machines here, as both the Mustang and the Challenger family come with much spicier members, even though the Blue Oval has yet to deliver the Shelby GT500 incarnation of the car's current generation.

Heck, the Mustang that took part in this drag race isn't even a 2018 model - keep in mind that Ford updated the Coyote V8, while introducing a brilliant ten-speed automatic for the mid-cycle revamp of the S550 generation.

Fortunately, the drivers of the two muscle beasts decided to hit the drag strip, thus keeping things on the safe side and benefiting from the prepped surface.

So we're looking at a 485 horsepower Mopar animal duking it out with a 435 hp pony, but we must keep in mind the scale footprint difference between the two, which is considerable.

And, judging by what we can see in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which depicts the quarter-mile adventure, both machines seem to come with manual transmissions.

This doesn't just mean the one behind the wheel has a more difficult time getting the vehicle off the line, but the shifts are also slower compared to those of the facelifted Mustang's 10-speed auto, for instance.

Regardless, the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack and the Ford Mustang GT put on the kind of show that keeps the audience on its toes from start to finish.
