Ford Mustang Boss 302S Detailed

At the beginning of the month, Ford introduced a new affordable pathway to racing, bringing us the Mustang Boss 302S. Now, the company comes to offer us more details of the vehicle.

The limited production vehicle, which is slotted between the Boss 302 Laguna Seca and the Boss 302R Grand-Am racer will be the third motorsport vehicle in the carmaker’s history to roll off the lines of a Ford production site and be available for purchase through Ford’s dealer network.

The vehicle used the street legal 2012 Boss 302 as a starting point. The racer is powered by a Boss 5.0 liter four-valve Ti-VCT V8 engine that delivers 440 hp and is mated to a six-speed transmission. The power is sent to the rear wheels using a T2 Torsen differential and 3.73 gears. Other tech goodies include two-way adjustable coil-over dampers and Ford Racing anti-roll bars for both axle.

The vehicle starts out in life as a Mustang body-in-shite that doesn’t use the he factory seam sealer, sound deadener and interior panels, in order to save weight. The body is then reinforced and receives a six point FIA legal roll cage, a Recaro HANS Pro-Racer motorsport seat, six-point safety belt quick release steering wheel and AIM data acquisition system with GPS.

As for the aerodynamic upgrades, these include a unique fiberglass heat extracting hood, adjustable front splitter and adjustable carbon fiber rear wing. Each car is also gifted with retro styled BOSS 302 set of decals, which is inspired by the the graphics from the original 1969 BOSS 302 program.

The vehicle will enter production at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan in the second quarter of next year. The racer, which is eligible for the World Challenge GTS and the NASA American Iron Series comes with a MSRP of $79,000.
