When it comes to old-timer 'Stangs, there's a lot of choice at your disposal. But if you're planning on spending big bucks on one of the most special ponies of days gone past, this Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 Twister Special may be the Mustang for you.
This fellow right here is probably the best preserved SCJ 4-speed Twister Special of the 24 examples built in 1970. On the visual front, who can say no to a Grabber Orange hue with Mach 1 stripes, a pair of Twister logos, and a groovy Shaker hood?

While on the subject of eye candy, you might want to know that 95 percent of what you see here is original sheet metal. Of all 96 Mach 1 Twister Special vehicles ever made, number 30 here may be the most original of them all.

To boot, it went through a complete restoration and it's got a 428 SCJ engine

Regarding the 7-liter tower-of-power, this motor boasts with matching numbers and correct Super Cobra Jet components. Mated to a 4-speed close-ratio transmission and a 3.91 Traction-Lok rear axle, the SCJ powerhouse was never available with air con due to the engine oil cooler's location.

Other than the final year 428 SCJ creeping under its bonnet, this highly collectible Mustang comes with a Drag Pack Hurst T-handle shifter and an external oil cooler. At the end of the day, what Mecum is going to auction at its Kansas City 2015 sale isn't just another special edition muscle car.

This is an opportunity that hasn't been paralleled for decades for hardcore Mustang enthusiasts.
