Even though it looks largely the same, the Ford Mondeo was launched much later than the American Fusion. So even though Ford is killing off the model along with most of its cars for the American market, Europe is working on another facelift.
And here it is, spied near the Arctic with its front and rear bumpers camouflaged. Now, this is by no means indicative of what they are going to change, just where. The Fusion just received a refresh before Ford announced the big changes, which could translate over to the European model.
However, we believe Ford is profitable enough to do the facelift differently, with the features of the new Focus models. We're talking about at least three grille designs (ST-Line, Vignale, and Titanium), the headlights which copy Thor's Hammer from Volvo, and an overall sporty appearance.
We also have photos of the interior and... surprise surprise... it's inspired by the Focus as well. You might notice the rotor that controls the automatic gearbox and the new design of the dashboard. Let's hope the trim is temporary because it looks bad.
A couple of months ago, Ford announced the Mondeo wagon would be available as a hybrid model. This could be what we're dealing with, a 2019 hybrid wagon that competes with the Passat and C-Class models. It will also have a 9 kWh battery pack, about six times bigger than before.
Alongside the green model, the Mondeo will have a full range of EcoSport and EcoBlue engines, 1.5 and 2.0-liter ones with outputs ranging from about 120 to 250 HP. In addition to the standard 6-speed manual, Ford is probably going to offer this car with its new 8-speed automatic. Some high-end models that have sufficiently powerful engines will also have all-wheel-drive. Also, expect more voice commands, better navigation and 360-degree cameras.
