Ford Mondeo to Double Sales

At least this is what the American manufacturer hopes it is going to happen in Australia where it recently introduced the new Mondeo. Furthermore, the station wagon version that's going to be launched in the upcoming months is expected to attract more buyers in a segment already dominated by Toyota, Honda and Subaru.

"The wagon will help us tremendously," Ford Australia president Marin Burela was quoted as saying by drive.com.au. "Our Mondeo market share will double in volume in the next 12 months."

"We’ve had groups that have come in and run technical workshops on our car and the GM Sportwagon.. We’ve now opened up the door to fleets and governments … there’s quite a large number of fleets looking at Mondeo wagon."

Ford doesn't think that Falcon could be a rival for the new Mondeo even if they are similarly sized. But each of the two are addressed to different types of buyers and the US-based manufacturer says it will try to maintain production on the same line with demand and build as many vehicles as requested.

"We only build Falcon wagon on demand … and we’re building 400 a month. If there’s anyone who knows something about building large cars … efficiently … it’s Ford Motor Company."

Officially introduced to Australians at the Melbourne Auto Show, the whole new Mondeo lineup is offered with Ford's new tri-fuel system and comes with a 2.0-liter 145 horsepower engine as standard. Specifications are slightly different on the wagon versions which is a bit heavier, with the total range reduced from 1,310 km on the sedan to 1,230 km.
