I was about 10, but I still remember a conversation between two grownups about giving the local Skoda dealer a bribe so that he could factory-install an RS bumper on their Octavia. Nowadays, however, you don't need to do that, as most manufacturers will happily sell you their body kits.
Take for, a company who's entire lineup of non-SUVs is old. So to spice things up a bit, the Blue Oval has introduced the ST-Line on the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo. Three commercials, all with the same theme, have been put together by Ford UK for this occasion.
"I know I want it, but do I deserve it?" says every potential buyer. Then they remember the single nice thing they've ever done and justified the purchase.
The ST-Line kit is similar to the Volkswagen R-Line, Skoda's Monte Carlo or the Opel OPC Line. You some of the aesthetic benefits of a fast Ford without the thirsty engine. That said, the Mondeo doesn't even have an ST version, while the other two do.
“The new Mondeo ST-Line is our sportiest Mondeo since we introduced the Mondeo ST220 model in 2002,” declared Roelant de Waard, VP of marketing, sales and service at Ford of Europe. “Mondeo ST-Line adds another dimension to the broad Mondeo lineup that offers options from the fuel-efficient Mondeo ECOnetic and Mondeo Hybrid models, to the exclusive and upscale Mondeo Vignale.”
That's bold talk, considering the original Mondeo ST220 had a 3-liter V6 engine that was given a Siamese twin and dumped into every Aston Martin. In the case of the modern Mondeo, you can order the ST-Line kit with the 150 and 180 PS versions of the 2.0-liter diesel
As for the Focus, customers can opt for the ST-Line in the following instances: 1.0 EcoBoost (125 PS) and 1.5 EcoBoost (150, 182 PS). Meanwhile, the Fiesta ST-Line packs three versions of the 1.0 EcoBoost or the 1.5 TDCi with 95 PS.
However, if worth pointing out that the Fiesta and Focus Black Editions are a far better performance blend, featuring specially tuned suspension and gearboxes.
