Ford Managing Strong Sales in the US in June

Ford saw a 3% increase in market share in USDM for the month of June. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 148,153 as reported by the auto maker in a press release on July 1st. Though the figure meant an 11% drop compared to last year's performance, this was the lowest decline reported among the major car manufacturers.

Ford Fusion registered sales of 18,561 units in June, which were 26 percent higher than in the previous year and also a month record. Mercury Milan nearly reached last year's sales level for the month. Coincidentally or not, both of these cars are having a hybrid version and offer the best fuel efficiency for mid-size sedans in the US.

The Ford Flex saw its best sale performance among any month since its debut in June 2008, registering 4,784 units. Ford's hybrid vehicles totaled 3,649 units being 91 percent higher than in June last year.

Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner retained last years sales level, making them the most fuel efficient utility vehicles in the US market. The Ford Mustang almost managed to equal last years sales, while the Ford F-Series and Ranger pickup trucks returned better than 2008 sales.

Despite the fact that Lincoln sales declined compared to last year, it managed to increase its market share in the luxury segment thanks to the new MKS and MKZ models released earlier this year.

The company seems oriented in closely controlling its inventories, listening to consumer requests and taking advantage of the “Cash for Clunkers” federal program, as it currently has “the freshest lineup in the industry” according to Jim Farley, Ford group vice president, Marketing and Communications. He continued adding that “customers are showing us just how much they value the quality, fuel efficiency, safety and smart technology incorporated in our new product lineup”. He then concluded “we're making steady progress and are firmly focused on our plan to build a sustainable and exciting Ford”.
