Don’t you just love sleepers? We do! Especially those dragstrip sleepers that make you laugh at first... and then, well, you know, they make you burst into tears.
Jokes aside, we’ve stumbled upon and intriguing video showing a rather unusual quarter-mile drag race between a sedan and a pickup truck. When pickups show up on the strip, interesting things happen, but this time we’ll just have to focus on the four-door sedan.
As you might’ve guessed by now, the fourth-generation 1985-built Ford LTD running on the right side lane is no nifty entry-level V6-powered vehicle. The almost 30-year-old car gained a 5.3-liter Corvette engine, a hidden turbocharger and several other upgrades, including pushrods, valve springs, LS9 gaskets and a Powerglide transmission.
The result? A whooping quarter-mile sprint time of less than ten seconds at 144 miles per hour (233 km/h). Obviously, the truck doesn’t stand a chance, but we would bet on this LTD being able to overtake several modern musclecars.
