Ford has listened to the requests of American police officers, and the Blue Oval now offers a rear spoiler traffic warning light that is not observable until it is activated.
If the term sounds too technical, the traffic warning light refers to the classic red-and-blue lights employed by vehicles used by police officers.
Until now, officers did not have a shot of running “slick top,” which means without anything on the tops of their vehicles, but the new element will enable this.
Ford has implemented the “rear spoiler traffic warning lights” so that they complement the “front light bars,” which are also placed in a manner that ensures they are invisible to the naked eye from a distance.
Even up close, you still have to know what to look for if you want to be sure that the Ford sedan or SUV is a police interceptor or just another black Ford.
With the new configuration, law enforcement officers will no longer have to make the "signature" move that has become famous in cinema, where the detective that used to be undercover would start a pursuit and immediately place a big rotating light on their car.
The latter type of illumination and warning device has long been removed from police inventory, but it is still present in films because of its dramatic effect.
This time, when officers that drive Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles engage a pursuit, they will have the opportunity of activating the mandatory warning lights with the press of a button, and without any aerodynamic or stealth compromise.
Furthermore, the vehicles will be just as safe as those that used to have lights on their roofs, as both the front and the rear of the Police Interceptor Utility Vehicles from Ford will have powerful LED lights that will flash red-and-blue.
Ford says that the lights are fully programmable so that the end user and their employers will benefit from a broad range of illumination solutions, from red/red and blue/blue to amber operation.
An auto-dimming capability is already listed into the units, and it can vary from full power to just 20 percent of its capacity.
