It looks like there’s a brake between BMW special editions for the Japanese market, a perfect opportunity for Ford to produce one of its own. America’s second fastest... selling pony car after the Camaro might just have a chance to outshine whatever comes its way in this segment of the JDM.
Called the Mustang V6 Sport Appearance, the package doesn’t actually imply the car being any more sporty, as you might be able to tell from the fact that it’s a convertible. Ford has instead focused on the cosmetic side of things, offering a host of eye-catching improvements.
For the color of the body, Japanese customers will only be offered a choice of two colors, namely “Performance White” or the Smurf-like “Grabber Blue”. Both version of the pain scheme also get a set of stripes on the side and the bonnet hump. The cosmetics also cover a rear boot lid spoiler and 18-inch chromed alloy wheels wrapped by chunky 235/50 R18 tires. Inside, the Sport Appearance package also adds leather seats.
All the changes give the Mustang V6 somewhat of a retro feel. The package is available on both the coupe and convertible models equipped with the 3.7-liter V6 engine, which is rated in Japan at 309-horses and 378Nm (278.8 lb-ft) of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission in either manual or automatic form.
Production of the Mustang V6 Sport Appearance model will be limited to just 25 examples, with prices set at JPY4.35 million for the coupe and JPY5.05 million for the soft-top, which translates to about $54,000 and $63,000 at the current exchange rate.
