The internet has educated us in terms of revs battles, so any teen who is far from having grabbed his or her license yet can talk about which machine sounds better. We’re happy to see such aural bits of information becoming available to the general public, so here we are, bringing you the latest stationary revving fight on the world wide web.
On this occasion, it’s all about America, with a Ford GT going up against a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Until the new GT arrives, we’ll have to settle for the 2000s incarnation of the supercar. Then again, with the 2017 incarnation packing an EcoBoost V6, we won’t complain when treated with the V8 of the old car. So what if the vee eight started out in life as a truck engine? It received a supercharger and that’s all that matters.
As for the Challenger Hellcat, the also-supercharged 6.2-liter V8 under that massive hood is a fresh development, but the Hemi spirit is strong with this one. Despite being a new engine, the rumor mill sees the Hellcat V8 as a bit of an endangered species. Ever since the Fiat Chrysler dealer meeting back in August, rumor has it the blown 6.2 will be replaced with a twin-turbo V6 after 2019, in the race for lowering emissions.
The two machines, which belong to social media character Salomondrin, duke it out in front of the man’s garage. Nevertheless, this is one complete rev battle video, as it provides both cold start and actual revving episodes.
And we wouldn’t be surprised if some of you would prefer one engine for the waking up phase and another one for the rev range moments.
Do keep in mind that the decibel situation could change depending on the exhaust choice. I’m here to ask you to choose, so I won’t take sides. And yet I can’t help but remember a recent discussion with a Blue Oval dealer, whose showroom held a GT fitted with a few Ford Performance goodies, exhaust included.
They said we’d have to move the machine outside the building to start it, because they feared for the integrity of the windows. And when that Ford V8 came to life, I had to admit the fears were justified.
On the other hand, the Hellcat extra topping market is still young, but it won’t stay like that for too long.
