Ford Galaxie A/FX Clone Churns Out 550 HP – Photo Gallery

From 1959 to 1974, the Ford Galaxie full-size sedan battled with the Chevrolet Impala over space, grace, and performance specs. The larger forebear to the muscle car genre, the Galaxie is a popular collector's item in this day and age in the US, especially the Ford Galaxie Lightweight A/FX replica at hand.

It may not be a carbon copy of the 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Romy Hammes Lightweight A/FX driven by Dick Brannan, the man behind the Ford Drag Team of the 1960s, but my God, it's a damn fine example of what race-ready muscle is all about. Currently advertised on eBay for a mere $12,100 after 24 bids, the 1962 Ford Galaxie Lightweight AF/X clone here is a real bargain.

Only minor details separate this heavily modified Galaxie from a run-of-the-mill 500 to a full-on racecar. First of all, the bodywork wears 2-year-old paint that is in almost perfect condition. What's not so perfect is the passenger door handle and the missing headliner, so there are a few things left to address.

On the subject of performance, the 460 cubic inch (7.5-liter) big-block motor churns out an impressive 550 horsepower and a face-bending 485 lb-ft (657 Nm) of rear tire-shredding torque. All that grunt is channeled to 15x6 and 15x10 vintage rally wheels with the original steel caps. If you're not into the racing hoo-hah, the owner tells that all the decals can be removed for a clear look. Sure, it's not a Hellcat beater, but we're assured that the A/FX clone can run low-11s. For a car that still wears license plates, this is satisfying intel.

Currently residing in Philo, California, "over $30k" were spent on this car on things that include a 9-inch limited slip rear end, power-assisted disc brakes, rear leaf springs, thunderbolt-style ladder bars with a driveshaft hoop, and so forth. The massive bulge in the bonnet is the cherry on top of this $12,100 cake. If you want to bid on it, you'd better hurry as there are less than two days before the gavel strikes "SOLD!"
