Ford Fusion/Mondeo Accused of Looking Too Much Like an Aston Martin

When pictures of the all-new Ford Fusion/Mondeo came out, last year, everybody immediately made the connection to Aston Martin. The Ford was ‘criticized’ for borrowing a little bit too much of the British car’s grille design, which looks very similar both when looking at it dead-on, as well as from an angle.

Luckily, The Smoking Tire managed to get an American-spec Fusion parked next to an Aston Martin Rapide, in order to better judge the extent of the resemblance. It is possible that Ford’s ownership of Aston Martin may have bestowed onto the American manufacturer, an idea of styling cars which is much more similar than one would expect.

We say the new Fusion/Mondeo looks good, especially in hatchback form, and it features styling which is a mix of European flair, with big brutish American lines. It is unique when put alongside anything in its class, and to criticize it for having a grille which is too much like that of an Aston seems like an exaggeration. Is it?
