The Ford Fusion is not only one of the best looking cars in its class, but it is also one of the greenest, especially in hybrid form, and now, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association or NHTSA, it is also one of the safest.
The car was recently put through the entire battery of crash tests, where it scored well in all categories. It got the maximum five-star rating for the frontal crash test, four stars for the car`s side impact protection, and four stars for its rollover protection. The car also comes standard with stability control, while forward collision warning and lane-departure warning system are optionally available.

The Fusion will have to battle the equally-safe all-new Honda Accord, which is safer in the side impact and rollover tests, where it gets five stars, and only gets four stars in the frontal collision test. Another very safe car is GM's Chevy Malibu, which scores five stars in all but the rollover test.

Still, while the Fusion does get an overall rating of five stars, it is still not as structurally rigid as the highest-rated car in the segment, the Kia Optima, which scores five stars in all categories, yet is not available with the safety tech customers can opt for on the big Ford.

Check out the crash test footage below.
