Ford Fusion Hybrid Ready for China

Having witnessed the appetite Chinese customers have for American cars, Ford is getting ready to offer them an extra cookie to go with the existing menu: the Fusion hybrid. The new model, which will enter the local market later this year, is part of the Ford display at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Coming to the market with the promise of being more fuel efficient than most of the competitor hybrids (5.74l/100 km in the city, 6.53l/100 km on the highway), the new Fusion however bets on something else to win the hearts and minds of the gadget-loving Chinese: connectivity and smart features.

Ford's model is packed with an array of features worthy of a full episode of The Gadget Show: SYNC voice-activated communications, SmartGauge with EcoGuide, full color LCD screens on either side of the analogue speedometer and a “welcome” sequence that is sure to make the customers' eyes spin.

Performance wise, the Fusion is one of the best hybrids out there. Ford rated the speed of the model in pure electric mode at up to 75 km/h, some two times greater than the speed offered by most of its competitors. Add to that the fact that a single tank of fuel can be used to travel 1,120 km and the money the Chinese will pay for the Fusion might be worth every yuan (prices for the Chinese market not yet disclosed).

“The new Ford Fusion Hybrid embodies Ford’s 100 percent commitment to fuel efficiency leadership, quality, innovation and advanced technology. We’re confident that drivers in China will be wowed by the car’s engaging driving dynamics and features that make the in-car experience more comfortable and connected,” said Nancy Gioia, director, Global Electrification.
