Ford is recalling 6,308 units of the 2012-2013 Focus Electric and 2013 Focus ST over HID headlights that fail to comply to federal requirements due to a wiring incompatibility.
The recall will affect 2012-2013 Focus Electric models and 2013 Focus ST vehicles all fitted with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights. The EV are manufactured from September 15, 2011 through May 6, 2013, while the STs were built between February 16, 2012 and May 7, 2013.

“Due to a wiring incompatibility, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, ‘Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.’ Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash,” Ford says in a statement.

Owners will be contacted starting mid-August and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring free of charge. Focus ST and Electric owners may contact the automaker at 1-866-436-7332 (recall number 13C04).
