Helpful Locals Save a Ford Focus from Sleeping with the Fishes in Istanbul by Sitting on It

Yes, this is one of those “WTF?” situations, alright. I mean, what in the world could you find odd about a bunch of people sitting on the hood of a car hanging two-thirds above the sea after all?
It happened in Istanbul, Turkey, and believe it or not, it’s not a joke, a prank or a publicity stunt. Nope, it’s real life as we know it in its purest, most ridiculous form.

The story goes as follows: a tourist was enjoying the many attractions Turkey’s largest city (and the only one to span over two continents) has to offer, when they parked their car (a white Ford Focus sedan that could be a rental, but it’s not clear) and went off to visit a museum.

For some reason, the driver forgot to pull the handbrake or leave the car in gear, so the Ford Focus started to slowly roll away. And as it so often happens, it wasn’t headed towards a rubber wall covered in a hundred layers of bubble wraps. No, it was headed straight for the cold waters of the Bosphorus Straight, via a considerable plunge.

Luckily for the tourist, some local people noticed the car going adrift and, being too late to stop it from running over the edge, they jumped on its hood to keep it from toppling over. And it worked.

The four guys seem pretty relaxed about the situation they’re in, even though all it was needed to send them to an early bath was one seagull landing on the back of the car.

According to infoblizzard.com, the car was eventually rescued with help from the fire department who brought in a crane and lifted the back of the car, thus preventing damaging the underbelly any further.

The same source also says nobody was hurt, which solidifies the funny note of the whole mishap.
