The parking lot of a bar in Raleigh, North Carolina turned into the scene of a Hollywood movie last weekend, when an impromptu fight turned into a shooting and then into an accident scene, as a car ran into the crown twice.
According to CBS 17, which also acquired surveillance video of the incident, Katia Vasquez has admitted to being behind the wheel of the Ford Focus sedan that purposefully drove into the crowd twice. However, while there was intent behind the gesture, she only did it because she feared for her safety.

Vasquez claims that people urged her to fight another woman, which she didn’t want to do but did it either way. She got out of the car and started throwing punches and kicks at the other woman, who reciprocated. At one point, a man breaks free from the crowd, approaches Vasquez and punches her in the head – Vasquez claims he was the other woman’s boyfriend.

She got in her car, so he took out a gun and fired several shots, one of which hit the Ford. That’s when she backed into the crowd, then went across a lane and went into the crowd once more. She says her engine had some sort of malfunction.

“All the people around there were against me,” Vasquez says. “My car, the engine went off when I was walking out. That’s why it looks like I was going backward and then forward.”

Speaking with WRAL, Vasquez has a slightly different account of the events. She claims she didn’t know the other woman and couldn’t explain why she was jumped by her. As for the part where she rammed into the people in the parking lot, she says she was just trying to get home safely and was scared because she’d been shot at – so she’s consistent on that.

Raleigh Police say that no one was injured in the incident, which is still under investigation. Despite Vasquez’s admission, no one has been arrested yet and no charges filed.
