Ford Focus Gets IIHS Top Safety Pick

Lots of safety seals this week for American manufacturer Ford, who received, for its star of the car lineup of the moment, the new Focus, two major safety recognitions from two of the world's most important safety organizations.

On Wednesday, the Focus was hit with a five-star safety rating by the Euro NCAP and now, merely a day after that, news of the model qualifying for the Top Safety Pick of the Ford Focus reached the American automaker.

As you already know, to a qualify for a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must receive a rating of "good" in offset frontal-, side- and rear-impact tests and the roof strength evaluation, as well as offer electronic stability control.

Ford Focus passed them all and has them all. The model is equipped with advanced restraint systems and next-generation airbags, AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Control, SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, SOS Post-Crash Alert System and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Moreover, the new Focus has been built using stiff and lightweight steel body structure, that provide both lightweight and resistance in case of a crash. According to the American manufacturer, 55 percent of the body shell is made of high-strength steel.

"We were committed from the beginning with the new Focus to design and engineer a vehicle that leads the way both in terms of technology and safety," said Gunnar Herrmann, Global C Car vehicle line director. "The inherent strength of the new Focus is the structural rigidity of the body and its extensive use of high-strength steels."
