Lease rates for the Nissan Leaf have been steadily falling ever since its launch, and now you can lease a Leaf, for a period of 24 or 36 months, with 199$/month. Now, Ford is fighting back, and apparently two dealers from Sacramento, California are now offering a very similar lease plan, for the more deisrable Focus EV, which undoubtedly has more appeal than the Leaf, and it appeals to more people.
The Nissan Leaf requires, on average, a $2,800 down payment, in order to initiate the lease contract, and unsurprisingly the aforementioned two offers also require the same $2,800 to get started. Mileage is limited to 10,500 miles per year, as opposed to the Leaf’s 12,000-mile limit, but with the higher desirability of the Focus, its slightly longer range, more powerful motor and better interior, the Ford is really beginning to look like the better alternative of the two, especially since they cannot be split on costs.

The popularity of EVs and their lease programs will increase, especially in California, once the state finally grants them access to the High-Occupancy Vehicle lane, to avoid some of the congestion on the state’s highways. Also, when factoring in the costs of such a lease program, the bottom line is that you save some $170 per month, as opposed to driving a regular gasoline car, which does 25 MPG.
