Ford recently announced that the 2012 Focus Electric has managed to become the first all-electric, five-seater vehicle to return a fuel efficiency of 100 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe).
In its quest for efficiency, the Focus Electric has overtook rival models like the Nissan Leaf (99 MPGe) and Chevy Volt (93 MPGe). Ford explains that the Focus Electric needs $2.10 (EUR1.61) to cover a distance of 80 miles(129 km) , with the calculations being based on the number of kilowatt-hours used by the car and the US national average cost of a kilowatt-hour.

For the sake of comparison, we are explained that a gasoline-powered car with an efficiency of 30 mpg needs $8,80 to cover the same distance, with the price per gallon being $3.30.

Ford has been taking orders for the Focus Electric since November through Certified Electric Vehicle Dealers in California and New York/New Jersey, with an additional 15 states scheduled to be added next year.
