However, Mark Schirmer, Communication Manager of the company, said in a post on Ford's Facebook page that a Focus Coupe is not possible for the time being and the carmaker hasn't sketched plans for such a project.
"Wild speculation about a Focus coupe is making the rounds on websites in Europe. I can tell you right now -- and the coupe lovers hate to hear this -- but there are no plans for this model," he said in the post.
This could be considered pretty awkward by enthusiasts around the world, mostly because recent reports indicated that a potential Focus Coupe could be on display at the upcoming 2011 North American International Auto Show. Furthermore, Ford even offered a hint that such a project might be under development.
“Our plan was always to get the basic Ford product lineup successful,” said Ford’s European design boss Martin Smith. “Now we have done that, we can start to build more exciting products--and we’ll show how we’re going to do this at Detroit,” he added.
If Ford really wants to build a Focus Coupe and this is only a market strategy to prepare the official display at the 2011 NAIAS, the car would be based on the same platform as the ST and would be powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.
