Ford Focus and Kuga for Scotland Rugby Stars

The British division of Ford today announced that Scottish rugby stars John Barclay and Geoff Cross have chosen Ford Focus and Ford Kuga models to run with for the new season. They collected the vehicles a couple of days after being named in the 30-man squad to represent Scotland in New Zealand later this year.

Geoff Cross, prop for Edinburgh Rugby, is one of 12 players selected for the premier global rugby tournament for the first time, while John Barclay, flanker for Glasgow Warriors, made his debut in 2007 and has since won 29 international caps.

The deal is part of Ford’s position as the official vehicle supplier to Scottish Rugby, a sponsorship agreement running since 2007.

The Scotland rugby team is due to fly to the southern hemisphere this weekend to begin training ahead of their first match against Romania, in Invercargill on September 10. They then face Georgia in Invercargill on September 14, Argentina in Wellington on September 25 and play their final pool match against England in Auckland on October 1.

“As we celebrate our centenary, it is only appropriate that Ford should continue our relationship with the game of rugby.  We are delighted to extend our contract with Scottish Rugby and to provide these rugby stars with models from Ford's product range – the Ford Kuga and all-new Ford Focus," stated Anthony Ireson, marketing director, Ford of Britain.

A fun fact worth mentioning is that the combined weight of the entire current Scottish Rugby squad is a mighty 487 stone – the equivalent of two 1.6-litre TDCi five-door Ford Fiesta models.
