Ford Finds Success in India

The investments made in the past two years in the Indian market seem to have paid off. Judging by the good signs sent by the local market and encouraged by the unprecedented success in India, Ford has all the reasons to be happy with the past choice.

The car maker reported today that, for the first time in its history, the number of vehicles sold in India passed the 10,000 units milestone (10,026 units). The achievement wouldn't have been possible hadn't it been for Ford's local star-car, the Figo. The model alone sold 8,600 units in January.

“2010 was a landmark year for us, with Ford nearly tripling its annual sales volume. Now we’ve begun 2011 with record-setting January sales. We have carried the momentum of last year's terrific performance into the new year by crossing the 10,000-unit sales mark,”
said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India.

“We are constantly fine-tuning our performance for maximum growth, and this is just the beginning of what I anticipate will be an incredible year for the company.”

The right start in 2011 is making Ford dream of reaching new heights in the country this year. In the entire 2010, the auto maker sold 83,887 vehicles, but now chances are that, for the first time, the 100,000 units mark will be broken.

And that shouldn't be hard at all, as Ford's cheap, reliable vehicle is gaining more and more supporters in India and around the globe. The Figo has already been voted Car of the Year 2011 in India, and more recognition is expected throughout the year.

“It’s extremely gratifying to see Figo resonating with customers as a great value-for-money vehicle. It is also heartening to see Figo winning so many prestigious awards in the automobile industry, more than any other car in Indian history,” Boneham added.
