Ford Figo Slowly Becoming Global Product

Ford Figo was launched with the Indian market in mind, but sales went so well that the US-based manufacturer decided to export the model in some other markets as well. In 2010, Ford exported approximately 7,000 units to South Africa and voices from within the car maker revealed that the company intends to bring the vehicle into no less than 50 markets worldwide.

Rushlane.com writes that Europe is Ford's next target when it comes to the Figo, although the automaker hasn't hinted so far that it intends to expand its product lineup offered across the Old Continent.

“Although the vast majority of vehicles we produce in India will help satisfy growing local demand, we also continue to pursue export opportunities,” Michael Boneham, president and managing director at Ford India, said in mid-2010 when Ford hinted for the first time that it wants to export the Figo into more markets.

“We are pleased to announce that Ford India will export our locally-produced, hot-selling Ford Figo to 50 new markets, including Mexico, North Africa and the Middle East starting next year.”

In India, Ford's Figo comes equipped with Ford's 1.4l Duratorq common rail diesel engine and a 1.2l petrol SEFI one purpose-built for the Figo. The diesel outputs 69 PS at 4,000 rpm, while the petrol engine develops 71 PS at 6,250 rpm. Both come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The model is priced at Rs. 3,49,900 (approx. $7,695) in the local market.
