Even before the arrival of "new" model, the Ford Fiesta was one of the most popular cars on sale in Europe, not only in its segment but overall. It makes for a decent second car, company car or grocery car, so there's never a shortage in customers.
However, 2012 was a surprisingly good year for the Fiesta, as Ford says it was the best-selling small car, with one being sold every 2 minutes.
The Fiesta was also the best-selling global B-segment car (sub-compact) for the first nine months of 2012 according to the latest Polk new vehicle registration data.
“The Fiesta had a fantastic 2012, both in Europe and across the world,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. “This iconic car has come to define what customers desire from a small car – style, quality, efficiency and great technology.”
Ford is currently in the middle of a full production roll-out across its European dealership network of the newer model. This has been made available with a frugal new 1-liter EcoBoost petrol engine that's supposed to be as powerful as a bigger unit but as frugal as a diesel.
