Earlier today, we presented you Ford's European plans for the B segment, with these including the debut of the B-Max and a facelift for the Fiesta (scheduled for 2012). Now, its time for us to see what is happening with the latter on the Australian market.
Aussies will get multiple enhancements for the Fiesta range, with the list including the addition of a new diesel engine, the introduction of a sedan model and the offering of a new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The oil-burning unit we are talking about is a 1.6 liter that delivers 90 hp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm, while returning a combined cycle fuel economy of 4.4 liters per 100 km. The engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox.
In an effort to offer the customers a wider range of choices, Ford is introducing the sedan body style for the first time in the country. One of the top advantages brought by the model is the 430 liter boot capacity.
The new six-speed automatic transmission offers the comfort of an automatic one without the fuel consumption increase associated with the latter. This will be available with the Fiesta’s standard engine (a 1.6 liter petrol unit).
The Fiesta range is also receiving multiple new features. All the WT models come with Dynamic Stability Control as standard, while the WT Fiesta CL is fitted with Bluetooth voice control technology. The sporty WT Fiesta Zetec (which will come to the market in Q1 2011) will use a special sports suspension. The entire Fiesta line-up will receive new wheel designs.
