Ford Fiesta ST Tuned to 221 HP by ShifTech

Back in February, the Ford Fiesta ST was named the Best Performance Car in the inaugural UK Car of the Year Awards. And for good reason. Fast Ford engineers have taken their time making it responsive, agile and fun, exactly what the customers want.

Unfortunately, there is one shortcoming of the European hot hatch, and that's the engine. While most of the Fiesta's rivals muster up about 200 hp, it's only rated at 182 hp. Still, with lots of money saved up (the ST is cheaper than most of its rivals), you can always tune it.

There are a number of different kits on the market, including one from Montune that's endorsed by Ford dealers. But we found a project from a French company called ShiftTech that's just as good. They took a stock 3-door ST from 182 hp to 221 hp using Stage 2 upgrades.

For those of you still unfamiliar with the tuning world, Stage 2 usually means they changed more than just the engine mapping. In this case, an intercooler forge and a full Miltek sport cat exhaust system were fitted.

Since ShiftTech also took the car to the dyno and back, we can see what it's really capable of. A stock ST 1.6-liter EcoBoost puts down 184 hp and 275 Nm of torque at 2,666rpm. With the mods we mentioned, 221 of peak power comes in at over 6,000rpm, while torque is massively boosted to 343 Nm at 3,233, which is in Focus ST. This just goes to show you what good parts and better management can do. Bring on the Clios, this Fiesta is ready!
