Many have said the Ford Fiesta ST is the sweetest handling car in the compact segment. While that might be true, the fact that its 1.6-liter turbo engine only produces 182 PS has always dragged it down… until today.
A one-stop tuning shop in Western Germany we know as Mcchip-dkr GmbH has performed a small miracle and upgraded the muscle of the Fiesta to previously unheard of levels.
With a software update and some changes to the exhaust system, they boosted the 1.6 EcoBoost turbo engine from 182 PS to 266 PS, while also increasing torque from 240 to 287 Nm.
To put that into perspective, the Fiesta ST now has more power and torque than a Golf GTI. Heck, it almost has double the torque of the previous Fiesta ST that had a 2-liter engine. In terms of specific output, this car is now up there with the Peugeot RCZ R.
There's no word on performance changes, but a regular Fiesta ST will get from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 220 km/h.
Of course, the Fiesta is a small car that doesn't need a tower of power. Its specialty is being light on its feet, agile and enjoyable to drive. But a kick to the liver every time you change gear probably isn't that boring either.
We wonder, however, if the added grunt can effectively be dealt with by the front tires and suspension system, which aren't that much different from ones fitted to 1-liter EcoBoost cars.
