The Fiesta for the masses is about to get a touch of Ken Block, as the Americans from Ford announced that the Mexico-build small hatch will be receiving the R2 Rally kit. Created by the guys from Ford Racing Performance Group, the kit will not be limited to enhancing the exterior look of the car, just to give the impression of sportiness, but will boast an entire array of performance upgrades which will make your friends want to own one.
It all starts in the gearbox with the R2 Fiesta. Ford Racing decided to go with a five-speed Sadev sequential with flat shift gear cut. The unit controls the output of the 1.6l Ti-VCT four-cylinder, and combined with the tweaks made to the pistons, conrods, camshafts and other cool-sounding engine mechanisms, will make the unit develop 168 horsepower and 134 lb.-ft. of torque. And if you think that's not enough, consider the fact that the production version Fiesta with this engine is about 40 percent less powerful.
“The R2 kit provides a fantastic performance and dynamic upgrade for the already strong and light Fiesta platform, transforming it into an instantly competitive and durable rally car,” said Tim O’Neil, president of Team O’Neil Motorsports, the guys authorized by Ford to give your Fiesta a bit more punch. “We’re really excited to be able to offer this to North American rally drivers.”
Aside for the gearbox and performance upgrades brought to the engine, the kit includes Reiger adjustable dampers with Eibach springs, ventilated disc brakes with AP four-piston competition calipers and T45 steel multipoint roll cage.
It's not yet known how much the upgrades cost, but we'll let you know as soon as something hits the web.
