Ford officials have just announced that both the Fiesta and B-Max will be receiving a new six-speed twin-clutch gearbox - it will be available straight from launch, for the facelifted Fiesta.
The announcement was made by Raj Nair, Ford’s development chief, at the Go Further event organized by Ford of Europe. He also mentioned that it will debut in combination with the 1.6-liter 103 hp petrol engine, which powers both cars, and replaces the 1.4-liter engine mated to a traditional automatic - it also saves some 15 kg over the old four-speed unit.

Also, it will not be offered with steering wheel-mounted paddles, as the targeted clientele are older and aren’t really into sporty driving, as they are just looking for ease of use. Now, we were honestly expecting the new gearbox to also be available on the 1.0-liter EcoBoost unit, but sadly, it won’t be, at least at launch, but it is a possibility.
