In case you missed it, RAM Trucks introduced the 1500 TRX this year, the Hellcat-powered pickup truck with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and 702 horsepower.
If those sound like the kind of specs that would give a Ford F-150 Raptor nightmares, they probably are. Actually, there's no probability involved there, only facts: the two have already met in a drag race, and the vastly more powerful truck predictably won. The V6-powered Raptor never had a chance, and yet it valiantly showed up for the contest.

A V8-powered version of the Raptor is bound to come at some point, and it will most definitely beat the TRX because that's just the way things go. With the FCA truck out on the market, Ford has all the time in the world to pick it apart and come up with something better. Or, you know, at least faster.

Did someone say "faster"? Ford might already have that - well, not Ford per se, but Shelby. We're talking about the F-150 Super Snake Sport with its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 developing no less than 770 horsepower. Despite the fact it's beginning to show its age both inside and out, this thing sure has all it takes to give the TRX a run for its money in a drag race.

In fact, that might be exactly what it was built for in the first place - unlike the RAM, we should hasten to add. Looking at the Super Snake Sport, you immediately realize it wouldn't be able to do a lot of the things the TRX can, while the reverse isn't at all true. In fact, if the Shelby-powered F-150 can't beat the TRX in a drag race, then it's pretty much useless, especially when you consider it costs more or less the same despite the fact it looks and feels much older.

So, a lot is hanging on the result of this race. However, just from the first few shots of the two vehicles, you can immediately realize something is off. The Shelby is riding on Toyo Proxes ST iii tires, which are all-seasons and therefore not great, but are still a lot more suited to a drag race on pavement than the much more aggressively-profiled Goodyear Wranglers on the TRX. Put these two on similar rubber and we might be looking at a different result. Not that it matters, in the end, because any sane person with no affiliation to either brand would choose the RAM out of the two even as it is.
