Ford F-150 Lightning Versus Chevy Silverado: Epic Battle for America's Favorite EV Truck

Chevy’s Silverado and Ford F-150 take the lion’s share when it comes to the best-selling trucks in America. Both these trucks will be available in an electric version in the years to come. Due to their appeal and demand in the market, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2022 Ford F-150 are the most anticipated EV trucks. But which is better between the two?

Unlike many automakers, Ford has not drenched its followers in secrecy over the upcoming F-150 Lighting. It’s the same old F-150 but with the gas internals gutted out for a pair of electric motors, and a battery pack.

However, when the electric F-150 hits the market, Ford’s competitors will have already enjoyed a piece of the EV pie. Hummer is bracing itself for a historic comeback, and newcomers Rivian are making headlines with a revolutionary EV truck, the R1T.

Despite all the heckle in the hen-house, none of those titles hold the glory behind America’s most loved truck—F-150 Lighting.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado comes with the same classic make-up to the electric car party. Driven by the same electric powertrain as the soon-to-launch Hummer EV, the Silverado comes into the market with one mission - to counter the F-150 Lightning.

Even though the specs favor the F-150, there’s much to compare between the two EV trucks.

GM says the Chevy Silverado EV measures 233-inches long and 76-inches tall. While it might seem tall, the F-150 is equally tall. The Chevy EV is a few tenths of an inch longer and two inches shorter than the F-150.

Both EV trucks come with dual electric motors, one for each axle. The Silverado wins the power race making 664 HP compared to the Lightning’s 563 HP.

GM’s Ultium battery also favors the Silverado, offering an estimated 400 miles on a full charge, while the Lightning’s large pack battery option has an estimated 300 miles range.

When it comes to towing and payload, the F-150 Lightning takes all the points. While both trucks can tow up to 10,000 pounds, the payload gap is vast. The Silverado EV can manage 1,300 lbs while the Ford can do up to 2,000 lbs.
