Ford Explains New 3.5-liter EcoBoost Racing Engine

The automaker says the powerplant is based on the production version 3.5-liter EcoBoost found in the Ford Taurus SHO, but modified to cope with endurance racing and match V8 engines used by other cars in the series. The mill is currently undergoing dyno testing and will be ready by October 9, when Ford Racing together with Shank Racing and Continental Tire will try and set a new top speed record at the Daytona track.

“At Ford Racing we really put high emphasis and importance on racing production-based vehicles as well as production-based technologies. And clearly with these times that were at, importance of fuel mileage and performance along the way, EcoBoost has been in many forms of racing to date, and we’re talking about directly lifting from the Taurus SHO into this application. We have production-based technology, production blocks, production heads obviously adapted to racing application with racing controls,” said Jamie Allison, director at Ford Racing.
