When the Scuderia unveiled their new challenger, it named it Ferrari F150 as a tribute of the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. However, less than a couple of weeks later, news has come to the media's attention that Ford had filed legal actions against the Maranello based company at the the US District Court in Detroit.
As you all know, “F-150” is also the official designation of Ford's famous series of full-size pickup trucks, as has been for a while.
After some behind-the-curtain negotiations between the two companies, Ford has now agreed to let go of the legal case, especially since Ferrari have moved quickly to renaming their 2011-spec single-seater into “Ferrari F150th Italia”. That being said, the Italian have also changed the logo of the car – which resembled that of the F-150 trademark – in order to ensure that no issues will be raised on this matter again.
“We are pleased we were able resolve this issue amicably,” the Ford spokeswoman told the Detroit Free Press earlier today. “This resolution ensures that Ford's famous and distinctive F-150 trademark will be protected,” she added, after confirming that Ford has filed a notice with the US District Court in Detroit for dismissal of the case.
