Ford Edge Named IIHS Top Safety Pick

A new session of crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) ended with the coronation of an additional number of models with the title Top Safety Pick. Among them, Ford's new Edge, more precisely the models manufactured after February 2011, have been awarded the title.

The naming of the Edge as Top Safety Pick brought the number of Ford vehicles that carry with them this distinction to ten. As was the case with all others, to qualify for the title, the Edge had to receive a rating of “good” in offset frontal-, side- and rear-impact crash tests and roof strength evaluations. It also had to be equipped, as standard, with electronic stability control.

“The new Edge is already the most popular midsize crossover and we believe this Top Safety Pick rating will generate even more interest,” predicted Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering.

In the Edge, brags the American manufacturer, the safety features extend far from those required by the IIHS and, at times, the law. The model offered by Ford comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, BLIS with cross-traffic alert, Tire Pressure Monitoring System and MyKey.

The model has also been named in February this year the Canadian Utility of the Year, after the vote cast by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

“The Edge pioneers the mainstream introduction of crash avoidance technologies with two available class-exclusive radar-based features that help detect and warn drivers of potentially dangerous situations,” added Cischke.
