Ford Doubles 2021 Bronco First Edition Production Run to 7,000 Units

So you thought the First Edition is the most exclusive Bronco for the 2021 model year? You’re right, but the Blue Oval has watered down its specialness by doubling the production run from 3,500 to 7,000 units thanks to overwhelming demand.

Speaking to Ford Authority, product communications manager Mike Levine confirmed this turn of events as “a one-time increase.” Despite it all, the online configurator lists the First Edition Bronco as sold out at the time of writing.

Ford continues to mention “only 3,500 being manufactured” on its website, and as you can tell from the screenshot serving as the main photo of this story, the First Edition isn’t available to reserve. Reading between the lines, the Blue Oval is encroaching the segment the Jeep Wrangler has dominated for so many years.

Featuring the mechanicals of the Badlands, exterior of the Wildtrak, and interior of the Outer Banks, the First Edition is a fully-loaded affair that costs an arm and a leg despite its truck-based roots. $59,305 for the two-door model and $63,500 for the four-door option, to be more precise, excluding the $1,495 destination charge.

The BFE also happens to feature the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine coupled to the 10-speed automatic transmission of the Ranger, the 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory LT tires of the Sasquatch Package, as well as the advanced 4x4 system. Unfortunately, the seven-speed manual isn’t available with the 2.7-liter option.

Ford has also made a mess of the Sasquatch Package, forcing customers to take the torque-converter auto over the stick shift. Even more curiously, the Dearborn-based automaker hasn’t mentioned a thing about the price of the Sasquatch Package.

In any case, a Bronco with these off-road upgrades should be just around the same price as the Wrangler Rubicon with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The JL and JLU in off-road configuration retail at $36,695 and $42,440, respectively.

According to Ford, production is scheduled to kick off in Wayne, Michigan alongside the Ranger at some point in early 2021. The first units should arrive at U.S. dealerships in the spring.
