Revived after nearly 15 years through a concept that was shown at last year’s Shanghai Motor Show, the Ford Escort name will return for the 2015 model year, when the compact sedan will be launched in China.
Although it will be built by the Changan-Ford joint venture, the brand new Escort is not developed in China. According to Car Advice, Ford decided that design and development duties will be handed over to its Australian division, who also created the global Ranger pickup truck.
Little is know about the new Escort, but the aforementioned source claims that the sedan will be launched with 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines.
The production version of the Escort concept will be one of 15 new Fords set to go on sale in China, the world's biggest automotive market, by 2015.
