The rivers of ink that flowed once Ford revealed its first electric SUV would be called Mustang have long dried out, and the world is now in a holding pattern as it waits for the electric car to hit the market and show what it is capable of.
Controversy aside, what we already know about the Mustang Mach-E comes together to form the image of a very capable machine. And if we are to trust Ford’s latest announcement, the SUV should be at the top of the food chain, at least when it comes to charging times.

According to the Blue Oval, in the best of conditions you could get the Mustang’s battery to charge in 10 minutes with enough electricity to keep it going for 61 miles, which would mean it could get from 10 to 80 percent capacity in about 45 minutes.

Sure, that’s not as fast as what Tesla’s claims to be offering with the V3 Supercharger (75 miles of charge in 5 minutes), but it is a 30 percent improvement over the figures initially announced by Ford for the model.

The above numbers can be achieved on the Mach-E equipped with the extended-range battery and rear-wheel-drive, when plugged in at an Electrify America’s DC fast charging station (we gues similar stations from others work just as well). For the all-wheel-drive version with extended-range battery, those numbers drop to 52 miles of range every ten minutes.

Those who will opt for the standard range battery will have it the worst, with 46 miles of range for the RWD and 42 miles for the AWD, but thanks to the smaller capacity battery they’ll get to 80 percent faster, in about 38 minutes.

Ford says these figures have been achieved during testing with the Mach-E, but only when the SUV will start rolling down the streets will we know exactly how those claims stack up against the real experience.
