Yesterday we were telling you about Chrysler announcing a diesel engine for the Ram 1500 half-ton truck later this year, and thinking wether Ford and Chevy might pick up on that idea.
Well, the two main players in the pickup truck market don't seem to be interested in offering a diesel-engined counterpart for the Ram, and Toyota is happy to follow the same trend.
While Ford remains confident that their EcoBoost engines will be competitive in the segment, Chevrolet and Toyota basically said they can't justify a diesel engine because most costumers won't be willing to pay the more expensive powerplant and diesel fuel.
The Ram 1500 will become the first modern half-top pickup to offer a diesel engine, as part of Chrysler's plans to improve the brand's annual sales with about 10,000 units.
Starting later this year, the Ram 1500 will be available with a 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine offering 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.
