If you were looking to buy a Prius V, you should stop and consider the Ford C-Max Hybrid. It has a lower acquisition price and better economy as well as considerably better looks and interior. Ford announced today that the C-Max Hybrid should achieve 5.0 l/100km (47 US mpg) in the city, and 5.3 l/100km (44 US mpg) on the highway. Also, the C-Max is 50 hp up on the Japanese car’s weedy 134 hp combined output, which when coupled with its agile Focus underpinnings, should result in an entertaining driving package. Factor in the C-Max’s base price of just under €21,000 ($25,590), which is €1,050 ($1,300) lower than that of the Prius V, and the Blue Oval’s offering starts to make a lot of sense.
Raj Nair, VP of Ford Global Product Development said "The C-MAX Hybrid builds on Ford’s 20 years of hybrid innovation and fuel-efficient offerings to take on Prius v with better city fuel economy at 47 mpg and at better value – a great chance for us to shake up the hybrid market [. . .] C-MAX Hybrid delivers 3 mpg more than Prius v with 50 more horsepower and exclusive technologies such as our hands-free liftgate – and the $1,300-lower base price means the payback period will be the smallest in the segment."

If the C-Max Hybrid has captured your attention, expect to see it in showrooms in the latter part of the year, being followed by a plug-in version, soon after.
