Ford Motor Co. will be building their sixth plant in China, in an effort to boost their production capacity and presence on the PRC market. They will be investing some $600- / €480- million and are planning on an output of around 250,000 units per year.
The deadline for the plant’s completion is 2014, as Ford will attempt to double its China production capacity, aiming to reach 1.2-million vehicles by 2015 - the company’s most rapid expansion in 50 years.
Officials have been tight-lipped about which models will be made at the new factory, but we do know that it will be equipped to produce seven different models, some of which may be completely new, as Ford is planning on introducing some 15 new models in China by 2015.
The American giant has a 340-strong dealership network currently in place in the PRC, a number which they also plan to double by 2015 - they really are aiming to become very big in China, indeed.
