Ford Bringing Lincoln to China in 2014

As China’s economy grows, so too will the number of wealthy people, looking to acquire a car which shows everybody that they’ve arrived, while also being different and ‘better’ than the other guy’s car. In an effort to give just such people more choice, Ford have just announced that they will be introducing their own luxury brand, Lincoln, in China, in the second half of 2014.

They will have a lot of catching up to do, as the Germans have already established themselves in China and it will be next-to-impossible to make them budge. According to CEO Alan Mulally, "introducing Lincoln in China marks the next step in our expansion in Asia and our commitment to serving customers in the luxury market." Mulally was in China to break ground on the construction of Ford’s new plant.

Lincoln-branded cars will be sold through an independent dealership network which will undoubtedly offer something new, to woo buyers away from the aforementioned Germans. Also, all Lincoln cars which will be sold in China will, in fact, be manufactured in the US and then imported - if it all works out well for the brand, Ford will definitely consider manufacturing them locally, as well.
