Just as promised, Ford Brazil has revealed the production version of the new Ka, right as the World Cup has the world's attention fixated on the country.
Not one, but two models have been shown at the same time, the Ka 5-door hatch and the Ka+, a very small sedan with the same front end design. Both look like the concept that previewed them last year and are likely to be offered in other Global markets. In Brazil, the car will compete against the Chevy Onyx, Hyundai HB20, Fiat Palio, Volkswagen Gol, Toyota Etios and Nissan March (Micra).

Last year, the first Ka prototypes were spotted in Germany and since then company officials have made it clear A-segment cars are crucial to Ford's future growth. Given that their partnership with Fiat is about to end, we could be looking at a rival for the Peugeot 108 or the VW Up!.

Yes, the Ka is designed to be cheap and practical, but it has a couple of nice features as well. Ford SYNC, AppLink and MyFord Dock phone charging are all available.

This affordable car is designed based on the old Fiesta, the one discontinued in 2007 that also underpins the Mazda2. Ford Brazil has predictably chosen only small engines for the car with are compatible with ethanol fuel. Both Ka and Ka+ will be powered by a 1-liter 3-cylinder, similar to the EcoBoost 3-cylinder, but without the turbo. It makes 85 hp and 105 Nm of torque, sent out though a 5-speed manual A 1.5-liter 16-valve engine will also be launched and has probably been developed for the India market Ford Figo.

Speaking of the Indian market Figo, that car will be identical to the Ka with the exception of the sedan's boot, which will be chopped to keep the overall length under 4 meters. A 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine with 90 hp and peak torque of 210 Nm will also be offered.
