Ford App for Towing Released

We've seen over the years a fair share of more or less useful apps being launched by various auto makers, but until now we never came across one about which we can safely say it's worth more than a mention on our website.

Called Truck App, Ford's software has been developed for the F-Series owners alone, being meant as a helpful tool when it comes to letting the drivers know what is happening with whatever they might be towing on one hand and with the truck itself on the other hand.

This is the first time an auto maker develops such a system, meant to keep the driver in the loop at all times. Complete with a checklist of things to do before getting on the move with something attached to the back of the truck and with live data feeds throughout the journey, the Truck App will surely come as a handy tool for all those 50 percent of F-Series owners that Ford says are regularly towing a trailer.

Those towing multiple trailers can give each one a name, for easier identification. The app allows the driver to keep mileage for each and every one. The information is relayed back to the driver via the 4.2-inch LCD productivity screen fitted on the FX2/FX4, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models as standard.

Below is the checklist the app will make you complete before setting off:

  • Ball coupler connected and locked?
  • Tongue jack raised?
  • Mirrors adjusted?
  • Electrical wiring connected?
  • Lights functioning correctly (running lights, left/right turn and brake lights)?
  • Trailer Brake Controller gain setting adjusted?
  • Wheel chocks removed?
  • Safety chains connected?
